4th Annual KTC Jax Benefit Dinner & Dharma Talk With Lama Lodro Lhamo

It is the great hope of Karma Thegsum Choling Jacksonville to one day have a permanent location of our own where we can teach and practice Dharma, always with a motivation to benefit countless sentient beings. To foster this vision, we will host our 4th Permanent Center Fund Benefit Dinner at Ani Karma Lhamo’s Residence, to be held Friday, April 20th at 7:00 PM. This year we are honored to host Lama Lodro Lhamo, a remarkable teacher of the Karma Kagyu tradition. Lama Lodro attended our inaugural Benefit Dinner in 2015 and we are blessed to have her teach here again as KTC Jacksonville gets closer to having a building of its own. Please join us for a wonderful vegan meal, and especially, to hear a Dharma Talk by Lama Lodro called “Enlightened Women in Buddhist History.” Numerous women have attained Enlightenment in Buddhist history. Lama Lodro will share with us the inspiring and amazing stories of some of these extraordinary women and show how everyone can begin to traverse the path toward perfect and complete Enlightenment.

ABOUT LAMA LODRO: Lama Lodro Lhamo has been a student of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche since 1990. She completed three consecutive three-year retreats at Karme Ling under Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, and received her full monastic vows (bhikshuni ordination) in 2008. She is currently the women’s retreat master at Karme Ling Retreat Center. She has a master’s degree in Buddhist Studies from Columbia University. She’s also fluent in Chinese, English, and Tibetan.

Participants will be able to share company & conversation with this wonderful Lama of the Karma Kagyu Tradition as well as enjoy delicious Vegan Vietnamese food. “Pho Chay” will be the main dish served. Pho Chay is a popular, traditional Vietnamese rice noodle soup with vegetables and a unique, flavorful broth. We also hope to have some tasty vegan desserts!

3rd Annual KTC Jax Benefit Dinner & Dharma Talk With Lama Losang
It is the great hope of Karma Thegsum Choling Jacksonville to one day have a permanent location of our own where we can teach and practice Dharma, always with a motivation to benefit countless sentient beings. This aspiration has become more urgent since KTC experienced, last year, a disastrous flooding incident of the building we have rented for 14 years now. The aspiration for a permanent location for our KTC, owned and maintained by us, has become ever more urgent.
To foster this vision, we will host our 3rd Permanent Center Fund Benefit Dinner at Ani Karma Lhamo’s Residence, to be held Saturday, September 9th at 6:30 PM. Please join us for a wonderful vegan meal, and especially, to hear a Dharma Talk by Lama Losang called “The Art of Happiness.”
Lama Losang/Dr. David Bole, completed the traditional three year retreat at Karme Ling Retreat Center under the direction of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. He received getsul (intermediate) and gelong (full) monastic ordination from Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. He is currently serving as the Resident Lama for Gainesville KTC and is the Spiritual Director of all the Florida KTCs. In addition, he received a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Florida. Cultivating Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual Health:
TEACHINGS ON THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE BUDDHA
By
LAMA KARMA DRODHUL

We are honored and delighted to welcome Lama Karma Drodhul, Retreat Master at Karme Ling Retreat Cetner, to Karma Thegsum Choling Jacksonville August 6-7, 2016.  Lama Karma will be teaching on the profound healing practice of Medicine Buddha.
medicine_buddha485_lrg_20132608100958_img
The Practice of Medicine Buddha, when undertaken with the heartfelt wish to benefit all beings and relieve them of suffering, is a meditative practice that is extremely effective in the removal of sickness, both physical and mental, and in bringing about balance.  The practice of Medicine Buddha was taught by the Buddha himself in response to a request from his student Manjushri to teach a practice for those beings who have inner and outer sufferings, and who live in the midst of degenerate times. As taught by the head of our lineage, the Gyalwa Karmapa, some diseases can benefit from medicine, but some cannot. In some places there are hundreds of sick beings and very few doctors, so there can be little treatment. In these cases, Medicine Buddha practice can be dedicated to those suffering beings.
The Medicine Buddha Sutra states that in the time when deadly new diseases appear and are hard to cure, the power of Medicine Buddha will become even stronger.During this two day retreat intensive, Lama Karma will also offer the Refuge Ceremony, the first step in connecting the mind of the student with the great Masters of our lineage, the first step in becoming Buddhist. Lama Karma will also be performing the Medicine Buddha Empowerment, which, along with refuge, is required to perform the Medicine Buddha practice. If one does not wish to practice the Medicine Buddha sadhana, receiving the empowerment is still a great blessing.
Of note: Due to the recent flooding event at KTC Jacksonville making our center currently unusable, the Medicine Buddha retreat will be held at Hai Duc Vietnamese Buddhist Temple, who have generously offered us their space. The schedule for the retreat is listed below.

Training in Compassion: The Seven-Point Mind Training
We all treasure the ideals of love and compassion, but may feel we lack the “how” instructions – how do we engender and nurture love and compassion, and bring them to fruition?

The Tibetan Buddhist tradition has a number of teachings on this topic – teachings called “Lojong,” or “mind training.” One of the more celebrated “how-to” manuals on love and compassion is “The Seven-Point Mind Training,” which was written in the 12th Century. In it, author Chekawa Yeshe Dorje tells us how to develop mindfulness and compassion in a logical, easy step-by-step format that is easy to understand and practice.

Because this special visit by Lama Kathy is during the week, we adjusted the teaching schedule so that more people can attend due to work schedules.

Lama Kathy Teaching Schedule:

Wednesday, October 14th:
12:00pm-1pm – Registration
1:00pm-4:00pm- Teaching
4:00pm-6:00pm- Dinner/Interviews
